Watch video tutorials how to crochet double crochet dc here.

A Double Crochet stitch is a very common stitch seen in almost every crochet pattern. Double Crochet is abbreviated dc in crochet patterns. (Note that if you are using an UK or Australian crochet pattern a DC is called a TR (Treble) stitch).

The DC is taller than the SC stitch.

Step 1.

Make a slip knot and chains. In this example chain 16. Turn. Do not remove hook.

Step 2.

Yarn over and insert hook in 4th chain from hook as picture shows. The skipped chains create the first DC of the row. Yarn over pull through loop creating 3 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through the 1st 2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook. You have now created a Double Crochet. Yarn over and insert hook into next chain, yarn over and pull through the chain, yarn over and pull through the 1st 2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook. Repeat until you have 1 dc in each chain to end. You will now have 14 dc made. Turn.
