Hairpin Crochet tutorial and Hairpin crochet patterns
Hairpin crochet uses a heirloom, yarn and a crochet hook to create amazing lace garments and accessories. Hairpin lace was a very popular craft in the Victorian times and now it is becoming popular again. The first thing you do is attach the yarn to the heirloom. There is more than one way to do this, the 1st picture below shows the most common method. The 2nd picture below shows a less common method. Some people make their own heirloom using knitting needles and empty paper rolls.
The picture below shows how your stitches on and off the heirloom determine the look of your pattern.

This pattern is over a hundred years old. This is how you do it.
Crochet hairpin lace for the desired length having a multiple of 32 plus 24 loops on each side. When crocheting keep the twist in the loops.
1st Row: Attach yarn in 1st 8 loops, ch 4, sl st in next loop, * ch 4, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 6 times, ch 4, sl st in next 8 loops, ** ch 4, sc in next 8 loops, ch 4, sl st in next 8 loops, ch 4, sl st in next loop, * ch 4, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 6 times, ch 4, sl st in next 8 loops, repeat from ** across length, ch 4, turn.
2nd Row: Sl st in 1st loop, * ch 5, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 7 times, skip next 8 loop group and next loop, cluster st in next sc (cluster st: keeping last loop of each st on hook work 2 trc in same st, yo and work off all loops at one time), ch 4, cluster st in same sc, ch 4, sl st in top of cluster st just worked for picot, ch 4, cluster st in same sc, skip next loop, sl st in next loop, repeat from 1st * across row to within last 7 loops, * ch 5, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 6 times, ch 3, sl st in end st, cut thread.
3rd Row: With wrong side of last row worked toward you, working along opposite side of hairpin lace strip, attach thread in 1st 2 loops, * ch 4, sl st in next 2 loops, repeat from * twice, ** ch 4, sl st in next 8 loops, * ch 4, sl st in next 2 loops, repeat from * 11 times, repeat from ** across row to within last 16 loops, ch 4, sl st in next 8 loops, * ch 4, sl st in next 2 loops, repeat from * 3 times, turn.
4th Row: Ch 4, sc in 1st loop, ** ch 8, skip next loop, keeping the last loop of each of the next 4 sts on hook.
