How to Crochet the Seed Stitch ~ A Crochet Tutorial
This stitch is also called the Up and Down stitch.
This tutorial uses US stitch abbreviation.
The Seed stitch pattern is a combination of Single Crochet (SC) and Double Crochet (DC) in alternate stitch.
Crochet Seed Stitch Tutorial
Begin by crochet a chain.
Row 1. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in next ch*, repeat between ** to end. Turn. (If you ended the row with a Single Crochet begin the next row with Ch 3 which acts as 1st dc of the row. If you ended the row with a Double Crochet begin the next row with ch 1 which acts as 1st sc of the row.
Row 2. Continue crochet dc in sc previous row and sc in dc previous row to end.
Repeat row 2 until you have desired length.

Yarn in colors Red and Black.
Crochet hook size 4.0
Special Crochet stitches:
Seed crochet stitch: See instructions above.
Decrease crochet stitch: Insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull yarn through st, insert hook into next st, yarn over, pull yarn through st (you now have 3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Crochet Rose Free Pattern:
Ch 30,
- Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in next ch*, repeat between ** to end, ending with sc in last st, all up 29 sts.
- Ch 3, *1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st*, repeat between ** to end, ending with 1 dc in last st.
- Ch 1, *1 dc in next st, 1 sc in next st*, repeat between ** to end, ending with 1 sc in last st.
- Ch 3, *1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st*, repeat between **4 times, 2 sts tog x 3, (push skipped work to point towards you), continue between ** to end. Turn.
- Ch 1, *1 dc in next st, 1 sc in next st*, repeat between ** 6 times, 2 sts tog x 6, 1 sc in ch 3. Turn.
- Sk 6 sts, *1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st*, repeat between to end, ending with 1 dc in last st. Turn.
- Ch 1, *1 dc in next st, 1 sc in next st*, repeat between ** 6 times, 1 dc in sl st, continue crochet on side of where beginning of work is attached with sl st (see picture) as follows: 1 sc in next st, **ch 3, 1 sc in next 2 sts**, continue between ** ** all across to work until you reach the beginning of row 7. Sl st in ch 1.
- 2 sts tog x 6, 1 sl st in next st, turn.
- 2 sts tog x 3, sl st in next st, turn.
- 2 sts tog x 2, crochet 2 x 3-ch sp together twice. Fold the rose together as picture shows.
- Insert hook through 3 -ch sp and through all the layers of the rose creating the bottom of the rose, secure with another sl st. Attach black colored yarn. Continue crochet the stalk.
Crochet Rose Stalk:
Ch 30, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in every ch to end, sl st in rose petals to secure the stalk. Turn. Sl st in every sc, crochet a 3-ch picot (picotes creates the thorns) in every 4th sc, twist the cord between picots to create thorns on both sides, sl st in last st. Fasten off.
