Crochet Joey Baby Kangaroo Free Crochet Pattern

This very cute crochet pattern of a baby joey kangaroo is quick to make and it complement the Kanga McGee Kangaroo Crochet Pattern. :)

Crochet Materials

Crochet hook size 3.0

Crochet Yarn 100 % Acrylic blue, yellow, red, and curly brown. 100 % cotton in white and black.

Craft stuffing.

Sewing needle.

Crochet Baby (joey) Kangaroo Pattern

This pattern uses US stitch abbreviation. 

Baby Kangaroo head:

Ch 3, turn, 10 dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in 1st dc.

Round 2. Sc in each dc to end, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 3. Sc in same sc as sl st, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc all around until last 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2.

Round 4 – 6. Sc in sc to end.

Round 7. Sc in next sc, 2 sc tog, sc to last 3 sc, 2 sc tog, sc in last sc.

Round 8. (Sc in sc, 2 sc tog) x repeat all around.

Round 9. Sc in sc all around. Fill in craft stuffing.

Round 10. 2 sc tog until hole is closed.

Note that round 10 is the nose of the kangaroo.

Baby Kangaroo body:

Ch 5, sl st in 1st ch to form a ring.

Round 1. 9 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 2 – 6. Sc in sc. Fill in craft stuffing.

Round 7. 2 sc tog until hole is closed.

Sl st round 1 together with short end of yarn. Note that Round 1 is bottom of kangaroo and round 7 is neck.

Use a sewing needle and stitch neck to head (round 1).

Kangaroo ears.

Make 2.

Ch 4, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 sc. Turn.

Row 2. Sc in next 3 sc, sc in turning ch. Turn.

Row 3 – 4. Sc in sc. Turn.

Row 5. Sl st in 1st sc, sc in 2 sc, sl st in last sc.

Row 6. Sk sl st, sc in 2 sc. Turn.

Row 7 – 8. Sc in 2 sc. Turn.

Row 9. Sc in ch sp between 2 sc. Turn.

Row 10. Sc in sc. Fasten off.

Use a sewing needle and stitch ears to top of head.

Kangaroo legs.

Make 2.

Ch 2, turn, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 2. 2 sc in each sc to end.

Round 3 – 6. Sc in sc.

Begin shaping toes.

Round 7. *(2 sc tog) x 2, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat between ** 4 times.

Round 8 – 10 . Sc in sc. Fill in craft stuffing.

Round 11. *Sc in sc, 2 sc tog*, rep between ** to end.

Round 12 – 15. Sc in sc.

Round 16. 2 sc tog until hole is closed.

Kangaroo arms.

Make 2.

Ch 2, turn, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 1. *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat between ** to end.

Round 2 – 5. Sc in sc all around.

Round 6. *Sc in sc, 2 sc tog* all around.

Round 7. Rep round 6. Fill in stuffing.

Round 8. – 10 Sc in sc. Fasten off. Attach to side of kangaroo below head.

Kangaroo tail.

Ch 2, turn, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 1-8. Sc in sc.

Round 9. 2 sc tog.

Round 10. Sc in sc. Fasten off. Attach round 1 to the back of kangaroo.

Kangaroo Eyes.

Use sewing needle and white yarn and stitch on eyes. Use black yarn to stitch on pupils.

Kangaroo Mouth.

Use sewing needle and red yarn and stitch a mouth.

Kangaroo Hair. 

Use curly yarn and slip stitch strings of yarns on top of hair. Use yellow yarn and string around the curly hair to make hair stand up.
