How to Crochet a Bird Bolero
Crochet Material
Crochet hook size 6.5
Yarn: Moda Vera Fayette Yarn multicolor + Black yarn to attach metal leaves motif.
12 x Metal pieces (you can also use a chain of your choice).
2 x buttons of your choice.
Sewing needle.

Crochet bird (Make 2)
Round 1. Ch 3, 13 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in ch 3.
Round 2. *Ch 3, sl st in next st*, repeat between ** around.
Round 3. *Sl st in in ch 3 sp, ch 5*, repeat between ** around.
Round 4. The sl st divide the 3 ch sp round 2 into two halves; crochet 3 sc into each half 3 ch-sp in round 3. You will basically crochet *3 sc down next ch 3 sp, sk sl st, 3 sc in same ch 3 sp, 3 sc in next 3 ch sp, sk sl st, 3 sc in same 3 ch sp*, repeat between ** to end, Sl st in 1st sc.
Round 5. Sl st in 5 ch sp round 3. Crochet the same pattern in all 5 ch sps: (1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st), sl st in sl st.
Round 6. *Ch 10, sk (1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st), sl st in sl st*, repeat around.
Round 7 – 27 are not actually ’rounds’, you will only crochet across part of the rounds to create beak, head and neck of bird.
Round 7. In next 10 ch sp: (2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr), you have now crochet up half of 10 ch sp, sk rest of 10 ch sp and continue down half of next 10 ch sp: (2 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc). Turn.
Round 8. Ch 1, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 hdc, dc in next 2 dc, tr in next 2 tr, ch 3, tr in next 2 tr, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 2 hdc, sc in next 2 sc). Turn.
Round 9. Ch 1, sc in next 8 sts (to 3 ch-sp), in 3 ch-sp: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, continue crochet 1 sc in next 8 sts, in next 10 ch-sp: 1 sl st, 5 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr. Turn.
Round 10. Ch 1 + 1 sc in tr, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st. Turn.
Round 11. Ch 1 + sc in dc, 1 hdc in next st, dc in next st, 1 tr in next 2 sts, 1 tr in next 10 ch sp. Continue crochet in same 10 ch sp: 1 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc. Continue crochet: *13 sc in next 10 ch sp*, repeat between ** 9 times. sl st in next sc. Turn.
Round 12. Sl st around all sts on 9 x 10 ch sp. Turn.
Round 13. *Ch 12, sl st between 10 ch sp loops*, repeat between ** 4 times. Turn.
Round 14. 17 hdc in each 4 x 12 ch sp, end with sl st in next st. Turn.
Round 15. Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, sc in next 35 sts. Turn.
Round 16. Ch 3, dc in next 11 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in next 12 sts. Turn.
Round 17. Ch 3, 1 dc in same st as ch 3, 1 dc in rest of dc, 2 dc in ch 3, sk (2 sc + 2 dc), sl st in next dc. Turn.
Round 18. Ch 3, 1 dc in next 15 dc, 5 dc in next dc, 1 dc in remaining sts, sk 7 sl st, sl st in next sl st. Turn.
Round 19. Ch 3, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Round 20. Ch 3, 1 dc in dc to end, 3 dc in last st. Turn.
Round 21. Ch 3, 1 dc in next 19 dc, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next dc. Turn.
Round 22. Sc in sc, hdc in hdc, dc in next 19 dc, 3 dc in ch 3, s 7 sl st, sl st in next sl st. Turn.
Round 23. Ch 3, dc in next 10 st, 5 dc in next st, dc in next sts to end. Turn.
Round 24. Ch 3, dc in each dc to end, 3 dc in ch 3. Turn.
Round 25. Ch 3, dc in each dc to end. Turn.
Round 26. Ch 3, dc in neach dc to end, 3 dc in ch 3, sk 7 sl sts, sl st in next sl st. Do not turn.
Round 27. (Ch 5 sk 4 sl st, 1 sl st in next sl st) x 5, sk 6 sts, sl st in next st, sc in next 22 sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Attach a button at tip of beak. Each bird goes across shoulder in the opposite way. Attach beak of bird to other bolero as picture shows.
Crochet flower (Make 2)
Round 1. Ch 3, 13 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in ch 3.
Round 2. *Ch 3, sl st in next st*, repeat between ** around.
Round 3. *Sl st in in ch 3 sp, ch 5*, repeat between ** around.

Fasten off and Weave in ends. Assemble as image shows below.
Attach flower below the bird motifs. Attach yarn at tip of petal. Ch 5, attach with dc where picture shows (1), 10, 1 dc in next petal, ch 5, attach with dc where picture shows (2), ch 10, dc in next petal, ch 5, attach with dc where picture shows (3), ch 10, dc in next petal, ch 5, attach with dc where picture shows (4), ch 70, sk 7 petals, 1 dc in tip of next petal, ch 5, attach with dc where picture shows (5), ch 10, 1 dc in 1st dc.
Make Arm holes using metal leaf motifs (you can also use a chain).
Thread a thin black thread (you can separate your black yarn in two to get the thinness) through the 5 leaves, leave a cm of thread between the leaves. Attach the leaves where picture shows to create arm holes. Since the bolero has two bird motifs facing back to front the arm holes will be attached in the same places, but back to front. (See image 1 for guidance). Also attach a leaf in middle of flower as image 2 shows. Use a sewing needle.
