Crochet Amigurumi Cup Cozy ~ Fisherman Theme
This crochet cup cozy pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.
Crochet Stitches used:
Chains, Slip stitch (sl st), Single Crochet (sc), Half Double Crochet (hdc), Double Crochet (dc).
Crochet cup cozy before it’s assembled around the cup:
Crochet Materials
Crochet hook size 3.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 1.25 mm and 1.0 mm.
Crochet yarn: sparkly blue and light purple 100 % acrylic, pink, white, black, green, brown, light blue 100 % acrylic, white sewing thread, orange chunky yarn, fluffy blue yarn.
Sewing needle.
Scissors.
Ring (to make safety floater).
Stick (to make fishing rod).
28 gauge copper wire.
Plyers.
Polyester filling.
The Devil is in the details: Beef slider sticks can be used as oars. :) See image below.
Crochet background
Use crochet hook size 3.0
Crochet row 1. With light purple ch 17, continue in dark blue and crochet 8 more chains. All up 25 chs.
Continue matching the colors as your crochet the next rows.
Crochet row 2-29. 1 dc in dc to end.
Fold up the dark blue lengthwise and stitch it to the light purple using a sewing needle. This is the ocean and the light purple is the sky.
Crochet waves. Use crochet hook size 2.5 and dark blue yarn. Attach to side of dark blue where it you stitch it to the light purple.
Ch 2, sl st diagonally 1 row above the edge, ch 2, sk 1 st in dark blue edge, sl st in next st. Repeat to end.
Attach fluffy blue yarn to stitch ocean waves.
Crochet Octopus
Crochet hook size 3.0
Octopus head
Use chunky orange yarn. Make 2.
Row 1. Ch 3, turn, 10 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in ch 3.
Row 2. 1 sc in each dc around, sl st in 1st sc. Fasten off.
Stitch the two parts together with filling.
Octopus eyes
Use white yarn.
Ch 3, turn, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in ch 2, sl st scs together until you have a ball. Stitch a black thread in the middle as pupils. Stitch to Octopus. Use Orange bulky yarn (same as Octopus) and stitch on eyelids.
Octopus arms
Make 4.
You can make them in different length. I made 3 x 25 chs and 1 x 15 chs.
Once you made the chains, turn and crochet hdc around the chs to end of chain.
Stitch the octopus arms on where you want to create the story of your fisherman’s cup cozy. I stitched the arms on last when all the other pieces were on. I stitched one arm taking the fisherman’s hat and one around the fisherman’s kayak (see image).
Crochet Fisherman
See wireframe.
Begin with arms. Attach yarn between shoulder blade.
Row 1 – 2. 8 sc.
Row 3. 4 sc.
Wrap around the arm and stitch tog with a sewing needle.
Crochet Body
Attach yarn between arms. Repeat process both arms. Crochet up and down the arms and then wrap the crochet piece around the arm and stitch in place using a sewing needle.
Row 1-11. 8 sc.
Crochet Legs
Attach yarn at the tailbone. Crochet up and down the legs and then wrap the crochet piece around the arm and stitch in place using a sewing needle.
Row 1-4. 10 sc.
Row 5-7. 6 sc.
Crochet head
Row 1. Ch 3, turn, 11 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in ch 3.
Row 2-5. 1 sc in each st around. Wrap around the head and stitch opening together.
Crochet ears
Make 2.
Ch 3, turn, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next ch, turn and sl st through turning 3-ch. Attach to side of head.
Crochet eyes
Make 2.
With black and crochet hook size 1.00:
Ch 2, turn, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st through the middle. Stitch onto face. Make eyelids using same yarn color as head and stitch over the top and bottom of eye.
Crochet nose
Ch 2, turn, 1s sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in turning ch using a sewing needle until the nose is a round ball. Stitch to face.
Make the pipe
I used 28 gauge copper wire in black and gold and shaped the pipe.
Crochet boots
Use 2.5 mm in black yarn. Make 2.
Row 1. Ch 9, turn, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end. (8). Turn.
Row 2. Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc to end. Turn,
Row 3-4. Ch 3, 1 dc in 3 dc, turn. Fasten off.
Stitch on the leg to create the foot.
Crochet Jacket
Back:
Row 1. Ch 6, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each chs to end. Turn.
Row 2-10. Sc in sc. Turn.
Front: As back except finish after row 8. Stitch row sides of back and front together.
Arms:
Row 1. Attach with sl st in back top where shoulder blade is: Ch 6, attach at front, sc in sc to ch 6, sc in each 6 chs.
Row 2-4. Sc in sc.
Fish Skeleton
With white yarn and crochet hook size 2.5 mm.
Begin crochet fish head
Crochet row 1. Ch 3, 9 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st down last dc to 1st ch.
Begin crochet fish body and fish tail
Crochet row 2. Ch 12, turn, 6 dc in 3rd ch from hook, turn, sl st in each dc across, dc in ch 3, sl st down ch 3, sl st in next ch.
Crochet Bones
Sl st in 2 chs, ch 4, turn, 4 sc around 4 ch sp, sl st in same ch (back to chain cord), ch 4, turn, 4 sc around 4 ch sp, sl st in next 3 chs towards the fish head, ch 2, turn, 2 sc around 2 ch sp, sl st in same ch (back to chain cord), ch 2, turn, 2 sc around 2 ch sp, sl st in next ch. Fasten off.
Crochet Fish Eye
With black and crochet hook size 1.25 mm.
Ch 2, turn, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st into a ball. Stitch to head of fish. Use pink yarn and stitch on eyelids (use a sewing needle).
With white yarn, stitch on the white in the eye. With orange yarn, stitch on fish mouth.
Crochet Fish
With pink and crochet hook size 2.5 mm
Begin crochet fish head.
Crochet row 1. Ch 3, 9 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st down last dc to 1st ch.
Begin crochet fish body and fish tail.
Crochet row 2. Ch 12, turn, 6 dc in 3rd ch from hook, turn, sl st in each dc across, dc in ch 3, sl st down ch 3, sl st in next ch.
Crochet row 3. Crochet around the remaining chs with 10 hdc, turn.
Crochet row 4. Sl st in next 4 hdc, hdc + 1 ch in same st as last sl st, tr in next hdc, dc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc, sl st in remaining hdc. Fasten off.
Crochet Fish Gill
Ch 3, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Fasten off and slip stitch below head.
Crochet Fish Eye
With black and crochet hook size 1.25 mm.
Ch 2, turn, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st into a ball. Stitch to head of fish. Use pink yarn and stitch on eye lids (use a sewing needle).
With white yarn, stitch on the white in the eye. WIth orange yarn, stitch on fish mouth.
Crochet Kayak
Make 2.
With pink and crochet hook size 3.0
Row 1. Ch 6, turn, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next 3 chs. Turn.
Row 2. Ch 3, 3 dc in same st as ch 3, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 4 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 3-4. Ch 3, 3 dc in same st as ch 3, 1 dc in every st until last st, 4 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 5. Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as ch 3, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in last st. Continue crochet down the last dc with dcs and 1 dc in down rows to row 1, 1 dc in the underneath of 1st dc row 1. Fasten off.
Row 5 is the bottom of the boat. Slip stitch row 5s together and continue up to where you fastened off.
When I put the fisherman in the kayak, I put one foot in and one foot out. I wanted the fish skeleton on the fisherman’s boot and thus assembled it this way. :)
