Crochet materials

Crochet hook size 1.9 mm

Aluminium wire.

Copper wire (28 gauge).

Crochet yarn 100 % cotton in white for main body and black for eyes. 100 % acrylic curly brown yarn for mane and tail.

Sewing needle.

Craft plyers.

Back legs: Cut 30 cm (12 inches) two pieces of aluminium wire. Wrap 28 gauge copper wire at both ends to attach the two pieces of aluminium wire. Bend in half.

Front legs: Cut 25 cm (10 inches) two pieces of aluminium wire. Wrap 28 gauge copper wire at both ends to attach the two pieces of aluminium wire. Bend in half.

Main part of body: Cut 15 cm (6 inches) two pieces of aluminium wire. Attach the two pieces of aluminium wire to back and front legs about 1 cm apart.

Neck and Head (made in one): Cut 22 cm (8.5 inches) pieces of two aluminium wires to be neck and head. Attach at the front where the nose is with 28 gauge wire. Bend neck and ears and nose using plyers.

Separate face of horse and top of head with 28 gauge copper wire. Bend the aluminium wire on top of head to point up like ears.

Wire 100 cotton yarn around wires until they are all covered. make sure you do the ears individually. The ears are the only parts that are done individually.

Crochet horse before eyes, mane, and tail.

Crochet Back legs horse.

Begin crochet back legs with 23 scs around each legs, 3 scs between legs around where the body is attached to back legs. Turn.

Row 1. Crochet back with sc in 23 sc each leg inserting the hook in the first row of scs.

Row 2. Crochet sc in back legs and inserting the hook in the first row of scs.

Row 3. Scs in scs inserting the hook in the last row of scs (row 2).

Row 4-5. Scs in scs inserting the hook in scs row 4.

Row 6. Sc in 23 sc, 2 sc in next 3 scs, sc in 23 sc inserting the hook in the last row of scs (row 5)

Row 7. Sc in sc, inserting hook in sc row 6.

Row 8. Sc in 23 sc, (2 sc in sc, sc in next sc) x 3, sc in 23 sc, inserting hook in the last row of sc (row 7).

Begin shaping back legs.

Row 9. Sl st in next 10 sc, (2 sc in sc, sc in next sc), 2 sc in next sc, sl st in last 10 sc, inserting hook in last row 8.

Row 10. Sl st in sl st, sc in sc, sl st in sl st, inserting hook in last row 9.

Row 11-12. Sl st in sl st, sc in sc, sl st in sl st inserting hook into row 10.

Row 13. Sl st in sl st, sc in 13 sc, (2 sc tog) until last 13 sc, sc in last 13 sc, sl st in sl st, inserting hook into row 10. Fasten off.

Row 14. Reattach yarn in 1st sc, hdc in sc, insert hook in last row 13. Turn.

Row 15. Hdc in hdc, insert hook in row 13. Fasten off. Fold in half and fill in stuffing. Stitch edges together using a sewing needle.

Crochet body horse.

23 sc around body.

Row 1. Sc in sc.

Row 2. Hdc in sc. Turn.

Row 3-7. Hdc in hdc. Turn.

Begin shaping back.

Row 8. Hdc in next 17 hdc, 2 hdc in next 6 hdc. Turn.

Row 9. Hdc in hdc. Turn.

Row 10. Hdc in next 17 hdc, (2 hdc tog, hdc in next hdc) x 6. Turn.

Row 11 – 12. Hdc in hdc. Turn. Fasten off.

Roll piece around body, fill in with stuffing, stitch side underneath body using a sewing needle, sew back end of body to middle of back legs. Leave front open for now.

Crochet front legs horse.

Begin upper leg and crochet 22 sc down the leg, turn, sc in 22 sc, sl st across front of body, 22 sc down other front leg, turn, sc in 22 sc.

Row 1. Sc in sc, turn, sc in sc, sl st in sl st across front of body, sc in sc, turn, sc in sc. Turn.

Crochet down one leg at a time.

Row 2 – 4. Sc in sc. Turn.

Row 5. Sl st in next 9 sc, sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next 6 sc. Turn.

Row 6. Sc in sc (do not sl st in sl st). Turn.

Row 7-8. Sc in sc. Turn.

Row 9. Sl st in next 7 sc, sc in sc. Turn.

Row 10. Sc in sc (do not sl st in sl st). Turn.

Row 11. Sl st in 6 sl st, sc in remaining sc. Fasten off. Fold piece in half and stitch side together with a sewing needle. Fill in craft filling. Stitch openings together, note that the top opening is stitched to top back of the horse to give the impression that horse is one piece, not separate pieces.

Repeat process the other leg.

Crochet head horse.

Begin with head. Sc up head, split up the ear and half down neck, continue up other side neck and ear, and sc around sc down head. Turn.

Row 1. Sc around sc up head, sc in sc ear, 3-ch picot in same sc, sc in next sc, sc around one side of neck and continue sc down the rest of neck, turn, sc up neck and up other side of neck, sc in ear, 3-ch picot in same sc, sc half down head. Turn.

Begin shaping head.

Row 2. Sc around head up to ear. Turn.

Row 3. Sc in sc to beg of row 2.

Row 4. Sc in sc to last 3 sc before ears, sl st in next sc. Turn.

Row 5. Sc in sc to last sc, sl st in next sc. Fasten off.

Begin crochet neck.

Row 1. 18 Sc down neck, turn, sc in sc to end. Turn.

Row 2- 7. Sc in sc to end. Turn.

Row 8. Sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next 6 sc. Turn.

Row 9 – 10. Sc in sc to end. Turn.

Row 11. (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) x 6, sc in remaining sc to end. Turn.

Row 12. Sc in sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Fold in half, stitch edges together with a sewing needle and fill in the craft stuffing.

Attach mane and tale with sl st using brown curly yarn.

Use black yarn and stitch eyes with a sewing needle.

The best thing about this crochet horse is that it can be shaped into all different poses which creates a very unique look.
