This is an Advanced Pattern for the Crochet Enthusiast and it is Only free for my Subscribers :) This crochet pattern is made on and off the heirloom. You will make the swan head, body, and tail in one go, and then you will make the wing separate. The wing is stitched on in the end.

Heirloom on 2nd smallest setting.52 loops each side.Use a sewing needle to stitch the loops together. Stitch the loops together to give the Swan its form. Then you can crochet in the remaining loops.22 loops together. This will be the swan Continue connecting loops on the other end of the work.

This will be the swan tail.

Connect loops as follows so the ‘tail’ bends in the opposite direction to the head: 9 loops together. On the other side of loops on the tail end, sk 8 loops, 16 loops together.Fold the swan by bending the head over to the middle, and then flip the head over to the other side which creates the shape of a Swan.

Continue crochet on swan head side. With a sewing needle, thread a loop around the next 17 loops individually. Stretch the neck out. Sl st in the first loop after the 17 loops, fold it over and slip stitch it to the middle sc, get the next loop and continue this process for the neck loops (7 loops all up). Do the same for the loops on the other side. This time, use a sewing needle.

On the tail side, begin crochet loops on the opposite side to 9 loops together. Crochet each 9 loops individually with 1 sc, ch 1. Turn after sc in 9th loop.

Continue crochet Swan tail as follows:

Crochet next row as follows: *Ch 5, sl st in next sc, ch 3, sl st in next sc*, continue between ** to end. Turn.

Crochet next row as follows. In ch 5 sp crochet: 3 sc + 3-ch picot + 3 sc, and in 3-ch sp crochet: 3 sc. Fasten off.

Fold the wing over so that the picots are facing downwards.

All that is left now before crochet the wing is to complete the chest area. Begin where neck ends and crochet 2 loops together with sc, *ch 2, Sc in next loop*, continue between ** to end, sl st in last picot of tail.

Begin crochet Wing.

On heirloom, crochet 24 loops each side connected with sc in the middle. Still use the 2nd smallest setting.

Off the loom, crochet tip of wing as follows: 8 loops together with a sc. On the loops opposite side, crochet as follows: sk 6 loops, crochet 12 loops together with sc. Begin crochet beginning of wing: crochet the remaining loops into the middle scs of the work as we did with the neck of the swan. On the opposite side: use a sewing needle and stitch the 6 loops into the middle of the sc of the work as before.

Continue crochet in the remaining 10 unworked loops in the middle as follows: 1 sc in 1st loop, * ch 2, 1 sc in next loop*, continue to end. Sl st in the beginning of the wing.

Continue crochet in the last 6 remaining loops: 1 sc in 1st loop, *ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, ch 5, 1 sc in next loop*, rep between ** to end, turn. Crochet 3 sc in 3-ch sp and (3sc + 3-ch picot + 3 sc) in 5-ch sp across. Fasten off.

Hairpin crochet slippers pattern on the internet

I looked around the internet, but could not find Hairpin crochet slippers anywhere. Hairpin crochet technique is famous for shawls, tops, capes, and scarves. You can also make beautiful lace jewelry. I even made a Hairpin camel as you can see in the image above. Hairpin lace-making is very popular and fine yarn is often used. I like to change up the rules a little bit and sometimes use chunky yarn.

Weaving the Hairpin loops together.

When you weave the loops together, you can make any intricate shape you need for your creations. Hairpin crochet technique is also used in my Crochet Hairpin Viking ship (see image above the Hairpin Camel). You might also notice the Tree of Life Hairpin necklace where I used chunky yellow yarn.

Step 3. In next 5 dc crochet: (1 dc, 1 htr, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 ttr) + ch 6, repeat step 2 other side. Turn.

Step 4. Repeat step 3, except DO NOT ch 6, INSTEAD sk ch 6 + ttr, 1 dc around dtr. Turn.

Step 5. Make 2 loops each side. Attach 1st loop by inserting hook into tr with a dc.

Repeat process 1-5 until you have 14 motifs each side. Remove work from the loom. Insert hook through 10 loops, pull together and create a circle. Use a sewing needle and fold remaining 3 motifs in half sideways and inwards. Fold the top motif to the sideway but outwards. Secure them with a stitch. Stitch the first folded motif to the first motif on the circle using a sewing needle. This will create the appearance of the neck of the camel.

Loops outer circle: Attach the 1 motif closest to the neck and the 1 motif closest to the circle through their loops wit a sl st + sc. Continue to crochet 2 motifs together through the loops with a sl st + sc. Fasten off.

Do not attach top motif of neck through loops. Instead, crochet as follows. Attach yarn at base of motif with a sl st. Crochet up motif to make top part of neck as follows: 4 htr, 3 tr, crochet 3 dc in last tr made, dc in sts until next corner. Crochet 3-ch picot in last st. Sc back to base of motif . Fasten off. Fold back and sl st 3-ch picot to next motif of the neck. This will create a chunky looking neck.

Crochet Jellyfish Instructions

Don’t know how to Hairpin Crochet. Learn the hairpin crochet technique here.

With green yarn and heirloom on 2nd smallest setting crochet 13 loops each side and attach with dc each time you flip the loom. Make 2 motifs with 13 loops each side. Attach one of the sides of the first motif along one of the sides the second motif by sl st one loop together each side. Secure with single crochet in same st as sl st. Ch 3, dc in next 2 loops (one loop each motif). Continue crochet ch 3, dc in 2 loops together until end.

On the other side of 1st motif crochet all loops together with sl st. Do the same on 2nd motif. Sl st through both sl sts to join the two motifs together. Do not cut the endings of the yarns as they create the ‘arms’ of the jellyfish.

See video tutorial below. Note that in the video I am using US stitch abbreviation.

What is so great about Hairpin crochet?

Well, what isnt’ great about it!!! Hairpin crochet is my favourite crochet art form. It is amazing, quick, and so relaxing, and I freestyle with it all the time. I never know what I am making. The pieces create themselves. How exciting! They are born from somewhere deep inside of me and I always feel liberated by the pieces. I use all type of yarn and hooks, from chunky yarn to finer lace yarn. Check out the Hairpin Crochet Gypsy Poncho.

One is a motif for the front and one is a motif for the back. Connect the two with either a chain or string. I used craft leather strings. I attached wire at the ends of the leather strings by wrapping around it and then I created a loop. In the loop I attached a safety pin that I attached to the motifs front and back.

I used chunky yarn and made the poncho fringe. Attach 9 pieces of chunky yarn to the front and back in different lengths. Wear your Gypsy poncho on top of singlets or dresses. :)

Free Crochet tutorial

This pattern uses US crochet stitch abbreviation.

Crochet Material

Broomstick needle

Hairloom

Crochet hook size 3.0

Sewing needle

Scissors

Crochet yarn: Botanica multicoloured. I use one with predominate blue colors and one with predominate yellow colours.

Crochet Instruction

Start by Broomstick Crochet.

With Multicolored Yellow yarn:

Ch 15, sl st in ch 1 to form ring. 15 loops on thick broomstick needle. Turn.

Round 1. (3 sc in 3-loops tog), ch 3, continue all around, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 2. Ch 1, sc in same st as sl st, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, *ch 3, 1 sc in 3 ch sp, ch 3, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc*, rep between ** around, end with ch 3, 1 sc in 3 ch sp, ch 3, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 3. Pull loops on broomstick needle from scs only, all up 35 loops. Turn.

Round 4. (5 loops tog with 3 sc, ch 5) x 7, sl st in 1st sc. Fasten off. Reattach yarn with a sl st in next 3 ch sp round 2.

Round 5. *Long loops (8 cm) around broomstick needle in 3 ch sp (leave on broomstick), sc in sc between 3 ch sp*, continue between ** to end, sl st in sc between 3 ch sp. Fasten off. You now have 10 long loops. Hint: sl st in 3 ch sp before pulling loop on broomstick.

Round 6. Reattach yarn with sl st in 2 long loops tog. (2 sc in 2 loops tog, ch 20) x 5, sl st in 1st sc.

Round 7. Sl st in next sc, sl st in 20 ch sp, ch 3 (acts as 1st dc), 11 dc, ch 12, 12 dc), crochet in remaining 20 ch sp: 12 dc, ch 12, 12 dc. End with sl st in 1st sc.

Round 8. Medium long loops (5 cm) around broomstick needle in every dc (not 12 ch sps), all up 120 loops. Hint: Do 60 loops first, and release the broomstick needle, do the next 60 loops the same way. Fasten off the yarn. Leave the loops unworked on and continue working on the hairpin crochet loom. (Hairpin and Heirloom crochet are the same thing).

With Multicolored Blue yarn:

Round 9. On the heirloom (3rd biggest heirloom settings): 120 loops each side, each loop with a sc.

Attach hairpin loops one side to 120 broomstick loops: *1 loop each motifs got with 1 sc, ch 1*, continue to end, sl st in 1st sc. Hairpin motif is now wrapped around the other motif.

With Multicolored Yellow yarn:

Round 10. Continue crochet other side of hairpin motif as follows: *4 loops tog with 4 sc, ch 8*, continue to end, end with ch 8, sl st in 1st sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Crochet Materials:

Yarn: Thorobred scheepjes wool linen light blue, Scrap yarn 4 ply white yarn, Vera Moda Fayette Yarn Multicolor.

Heirloom

Crochet hook size 3.0

Sewing needle.

Scissors.

Crochet instructions.

This crochet pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.

Use the 2nd smallest option on your heirloom, and have one short loop, and one long loop.

On the short end, crochet 1 sc in front loop.

On the long end, crochet 1 sc in back loop. This will create a 3D effect.

Make the short loop gradually longer per turn, and the long loop gradually shorter. After 15 turns (15 loops per side) per side, the short loop has become the long loop and vice versa. See picture. Repeat process x 3, all up 60 loops per side.

Remove work from the loom. Starting from long side, attach 15 loops together with 1 sc, (15 loops together with 1 sc) x 2, 15 loops together with 1 sc, sl st in last sc. Fasten off. Continue crochet on the other side.

1 sc in 1st loop, *ch 1, 1 sc in next loop*, repeat to end, count 30 ch sp on the row you just crochet, 1 sl st in the 30iest ch sp. Fasten off. Count another 10 ch sps: use the thread left over from when you created the 1st sc in the 1st loop, sl st in the ch sps (40th ch sps). This gives the piece a great 3D effect. Fasten off.

Attach white yarn in last sl st with sl st. Ch 3, sk sc, sc in next ch sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch sp) x 15. Fold work over and sl st where you attached the white yarn. Continue crochet ch 3, 1 sc in next ch sp across all folds (start with the small fold). Fasten off.

Now you will create a new fold by counting 10 ch sp on the flat back piece, sl st in next sc tog where the sc meets the piece in front of it. See pic. Create another fold by count another 8 3 ch sps on the back piece from last sl st, sl st in next sc tog where next fold’s sc naturally meets. See pic.

Attach multi-colored yarn in same sl st as last sl st. In next 3 ch sp crochet: (sc + hdc + dc + tr), (ch 3, sc + hdc + dc + tr in next 3 ch sp) x repeat around outside of flower, end with sl st in sc.

Continue crochet next round as follows: sc in sc, hdc in hdc, dc in dc, tr in tr, ch 5. Repeat around, end with sl st in sc. Fasten off.

Reattach yarn with a sl st in 1st sc before the first 3 ch sp inside folds. Crochet (ch 3, sc + hdc + dc + tr in next 3 ch sp) x around each fold inside of flower. End with sl st in next st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Final crochet Hairpin product.

About Hairpin Crochet

Hairpin crochet is by far my favourite crochet style. I absolutely love it. It is my passion. The best thing about it is….you never know what you are making until it is finished! This time, I thought I’d make a star….then it turned into a flower….and then when finished, I see it is in fact sea coral….:) How wonderful….the crochet piece is making itself….Have you got any crochet stories, and patterns you want to share on this site…well, don’t hesitate: Click here, and submit your crochet work.

Crochet Materials

Heirloom

Crochet hook size 3.0

Yarn: Thorobred scheepjeswool linnen light blue blue, scapyarn 4 ply white, and fluffy orange.

Sewing needle.

Scissors.

Crochet Instructions.

This pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.

Use the 2nd smallest option on your heirloom, and have one short loop, and one long loop.

On the short end, crochet 1 sc in front loop.

On long end, crochet 1 sc in back loop. This will create a 3D effect.

Make the short loop gradually longer per turn, and the long loop gradually shorter. After 15 turns (15 loops per side) per side, the short loop has become the long loop and vice versa. See picture. Repeat process x 3, all up 60 loops per side.

Release the work from loom and begin crochet on side of long loops: (15 loops tog with 1 sc, ch 5, (15 loops tog with 1 sc) x 2, ch 5, last 15 loops tog with 1 sc, ch 5, sl st in 1st sc (in first 15 loops tog). Fasten off.

Change color to white and continue crochet the other side: Reattach yarn with 5 loops tog with a sl st, 1 sc in same spot as sl st, *ch 5, 1 sc in next 5 loops tog*, rep between ** to end. (14 times).

Ch 4 (acts as tr), 2 tr in same spot (leave 1 loop on hook each tr), draw yarn through all loops tog (tr-cluster made), *ch 10, tr-cluster in next sc**, repeat between ** to end.

Change color to orange (fluffy yarn) and continue next row.

In each 10-ch sp crochet: (ch 3, 3 sc) x 3 + 3 sc. Repeat to end. Fasten off.

Reattach orange yarn in one of the 3 5-ch sp that create a triangle in the middle. In each 5 ch-sp crochet: 7 sc. All up 21 sc. Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

PS. The first st you make on the hair loom will only have 2 loops on them after twisting twice due to
there was no loop on hook to begin with.
Yo, bring hook through all 10 loops, bring yarn across, yo and draw yarn through the first 2 loops on
hook, yo, bring yarn across and yo, draw yarn through the first 2 loops on hook. Continue this until
you have 10 loops on the hook holding the 10 loops on heirloom together. Yo and bring yarn through all
loops on hook (10 tr fans).
When counting how many loops you have made each side, do not count the loop created after a
10 loop has been connected. Ignore this loop.
Make 8 of the 10 loops each side held together by 10 tr fans.
Due to the twisting of the heirloom before the stitch is complete the loops on the heirloom will get
tighter and tighter.
