Ball-jointed dolls (BJDs) crafted using 3D printing technology have opened up new possibilities in the world of doll-making. Traditional BJDs are typically made from resin; however, 3D printing offers more affordable and customizable options.

One of the main advantages of using 3D printing for BJDs is the ability to easily customise every aspect of the doll, from its size and shape to its facial features and articulation points.

Additionally, 3D printing enables faster production times and lower costs compared to traditional manufacturing methods. This accessibility has made BJD collecting more accessible to a wider audience.

However, there are some challenges associated with 3D printed BJDs. The quality of the print can vary depending on the printer and the material used, leading to potential issues with durability and overall aesthetics. Additionally, while 3D printing allows for a high level of customisation, it can also be complex and time-consuming to design and print a fully articulated BJD.

Overall, 3D printed BJDs represent an exciting new frontier in doll-making, offering collectors the opportunity to create unique and personalised dolls that were once only possible through traditional craftsmanship. As 3D printing technology continues to advance, the possibilities for creating stunning and lifelike BJDs will only continue to expand.

Creating a ball-jointed doll (BJD) through crochet involves several steps to make the different parts of the doll and assemble them with joints. Here’s a basic overview of how you could approach this project:

Gather Materials: You’ll need yarn in the color of your choice, crochet hooks (size appropriate for your yarn), stuffing, and jointing materials like plastic or metal joints, or crochet loops to create joints.

Plan Your Design: Decide on the size and proportions of your BJD and create a pattern for each part (head, torso, limbs) with increases and decreases to achieve the desired shapes.

Crochet the Parts:

Head: Start with a magic ring and work in continuous rounds to create a sphere. Stuff lightly as you go.

Torso: Crochet a cylindrical shape, adjusting the size based on your doll’s proportions. You can add shaping for the waist.

Limbs: Crochet tubes for the arms and legs, increasing and decreasing as needed for shaping.

Create Joints:

For each joint, you’ll need to create a socket and a ball. The socket is usually attached to the body part, and the ball is attached to the limb.

To crochet a joint, you can create a loop (such as a magic ring) and work single crochet stitches around it, gradually increasing to form a ball shape.

Assemble Your Doll:

Attach the limbs to the torso using the joints. Make sure they are secure but allow for movement.

Attach the head to the torso using a similar jointing method.

Add Details:

Once your basic doll is assembled, you can add details like facial features, hair, and clothing using embroidery, crochet, or other crafting techniques.

Finish and Customize:

Finish off any loose ends and make sure all parts are securely attached. You can also customize your doll further with accessories or additional details.

Creating a crochet doll with pixie hair can be a delightful and creative project. Here’s how you can bring this charming character to life:

Materials Needed:

Worsted weight yarn in desired hair color (e.g., brown, blonde, black)

Crochet hook suitable for the yarn weight

Fiberfill stuffing

Yarn needle

Safety eyes or embroidery floss for eyes

Embroidery floss for mouth and other details

Optional: beads, ribbons, or other embellishments for hair accessories

Instructions:

Head and Body: Start by crocheting the head and body of the doll following a basic amigurumi pattern. Stuff the head and body lightly as you go.

Hair Base: Once the head is complete, begin crocheting the hair base. Start at the forehead and work your way back, creating a row of single crochet stitches around the head.

Pixie Hair: For the pixie hair, work in rows or rounds of short chains or loops, similar to making a fringe. You can vary the length and density of the loops to create a textured pixie cut. Continue until the entire head is covered in hair.

Styling: Use your fingers or a comb to style the hair into the desired pixie cut. You can trim the strands if needed to achieve the right length and shape.

Face: Attach safety eyes or embroider eyes using embroidery floss. Add a mouth and other facial features as desired.

Final Touches: Add any additional embellishments to the hair, such as beads, ribbons, or flowers, to give the doll’s hair a unique and playful look.

Finishing: Weave in any remaining yarn ends and trim excess. Your crochet doll with a pixie hairdo is now ready to charm and delight!

Creating a crochet doll with pixie hair allows for endless customization and creativity. Have fun experimenting with different colors, styles, and accessories to make your doll truly unique!

Once upon a time in the enchanting world of Woolington, there lived a unique and charming felted doll named Bramble. What set Bramble apart from the other dolls in Woolington was her striking resemblance to a badger. Her creators, skilled artisans in the art of felting, had meticulously crafted her soft, woolen exterior to capture the essence of the woodland creature.

Bramble’s body was a patchwork of rich browns and grays, mirroring the distinctive fur patterns of a badger. Her button-like eyes twinkled with mischievous curiosity, and a tiny, embroidered pink nose nestled between two fluffy ears. Her paws, fashioned from the finest felt, featured delicate claws that hinte

Living in a cozy cottage nestled between moss-covered trees, Bramble became a beloved companion to a child named Lucy. From the moment Lucy laid eyes on Bramble in the quaint toy shop, she felt an instant connection to the badger-like doll. Bramble, in turn, found a friend and confidante in Lucy.

Together, they embarked on countless adventures in the imaginary forests of Woolington. Bramble, with her badger-like agility, would lead Lucy through imaginary thickets and over make-believe streams. The other toys in Lucy’s collection often joined in their escapades, forming a close-knit community of playmates.

As the seasons changed in Woolington, so did Bramble’s adventures. In the warmth of spring, she would don a tiny flower crown and guide Lucy on quests to find magical blooms. During summer, she became the guardian of the miniature garden, ensuring that imaginary creatures didn’t disturb the tranquility of their make-believe world.

Autumn brought a new set of activities, with Bramble assisting Lucy in gathering felted acorns and leaves for their pretend woodland feast. When winter’s chill set in, Bramble transformed into a cozy companion, keeping Lucy warm with his fuzzy presence during imaginary snowball fights and sledding escapades.

Bramble, the felted badger doll, was more than just a toy to Lucy. She was a vessel of imagination, a conduit for creativity, and a steadfast friend. Together, they taught the inhabitants of Woolington the magic of make-believe and the enduring power of friendship, proving that even a felted badger doll could inspire the most enchanting tales in the whimsical world of childhood.

How I made Badgergurl

Badgergurl is a creation inspired by the Norse beliefs in having a fylgja. In my own fylgja vision quest, I discovered my fylgja is Badger. I thus made a doll who is half human, half badger. Or perhaps she is half fairy and half badger.

I crochet her dress and decorated it with tatted flowers. I also crochet her boots and decorated them with tatted flowers as well.

I began tatting a few years ago and it has transformed many of my crochet pieces.

Tatting has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years, as contemporary artisans and crafters rediscover the joy of creating these timeless lace designs. In addition to traditional patterns, modern tatters often experiment with colors, textures, and innovative techniques, breathing new life into this age-old art form.

Tatting to the decoration rescue

One of the defining features of tatting is the creation of picots, small loops or spaces between stitches, which contribute to the lace’s airy and intricate appearance. Tatters carefully control the tension of the thread to ensure uniformity in the loops and knots, resulting in a visually stunning piece of lacework.

The first thing you need is suitable yarn. In this tutorial, I am using 100% Acrylic, curly, yellow 4 ply yarn. For the video tutorial on my Youtube, Click Here.

What you will need for this tutorial + a Sewing machine.

Decide the length of the hair and begin rolling up the hair in the desired length. You will also need glue, a sewing machine, and two types of ribbon: wide width and narrow width (see pic above). In this tutorial, I had to glue the wider ribbon to the doll head.

This was to give it a surface that is easier to glue the hair onto. You might not need to do this. You will need the narrow width ribbon to stitch the hair onto. This is to create the hairpieces that you will glue to the doll hair in a circular fashion.

Lay the ribbon across the middle of the yarn as pic above shows. Stitch with long stitches across the ribbon on the sewing machine. Lay all the hair across to face one side. Stitch across the ribbon with cross stitches on the sewing machine. The result will look like the picture below.

You will end up with different size hair pieces.

Glue the hair in a circular motion around the head (see pics below).

How to crochet barbie outfits

Crocheting Barbie outfits are easy, but you will ahve to use a very small hook and quite fine yarn. I use 100 % cotton and 1.9 mm yarn.

In this post, I gave Elsa a remake. I also made her a wig. In a previous barbie makeover, I stitched yarn directly to the barbie head (see image below), but this time, I made a wig using doll hair.

This crochet Mermaid is made in a very peculiur manner. Instead of crocheting rows and rounds, I crochet a chainless single crochet cord. The chainless single crochet cord was shaped into the different Mermaid parts and stitched together using a sewing needle. The head, arms, and torso was made this way. The Mermaid tail was created by stitching together yarn that was already folded into loops. This type of yarn is called Loopy Yarn.

Crochet Mermaid Step by Step.

Begin creating a Chainless SC cord and turn it into a round ball as the image below shows. Create another Chainless SC cord (about 15 scs long) and at the end crochet fingers as follows: ch 2, turn and sl st in last sc, ch 2, turn, and sl st in same sc). Make 2 arms. Crochet torso by folding a long Chainless SC cord into half. Crochet breast by folding a shorter cord the same way. Fasten the cords into place using a sewing needle. Stitch the body parts together.

How to felt your crochet doll

Put your doll in with some towels into the washing machine on 90 degrees. This will shrink the wool fibres as it tumbles around in the washing machine. The towels aids in the smoothing of the wool fibers. The crochet doll will shrink and smooth out.

Crochet baby doll face

Stitch on eyes using white and black yarn. Stitch on mouth using red yarn. I used pastel sticks and turned the cheeks and nose redish, and the eyelids blue.

Crochet doll fingers and toes adjustment.

Use a sewing needle and light pink wool. Stitch the fingers and toes on by inserting the hook either side and pulling on the strings to give the impressions of fingers and toes.

Crochet Doll Decoration

This felted doll is a perfect bookshelf decoration. This doll is also a perfect doll to crochet doll clothes for. :)
