Bella, the Wannabe Bride

Once upon a time in the vibrant world of Dollington, there lived a charming Barbie doll named Bella. Unlike the other dolls in Dollington, Bella had a dream that set her apart—she longed for the day she would walk down the aisle in a beautiful wedding gown, surrounded by the warmth of true love. Bella was known far and wide as “Bella the Wannabe Bride.”

Bella’s closet was a mesmerizing array of wedding dresses, each more exquisite than the last. From lace to satin, ivory to blush, her collection seemed endless. But what made Bella truly unique was that she wore a wedding dress at all times. Whether she was shopping for groceries, strolling through the park, or even attending doll parties, Bella was always adorned in her bridal attire.

The other dolls admired Bella’s dedication to her dream, but they couldn’t help but wonder why she never took off the wedding dress. Bella simply smiled and explained, “I want to be ready for my big day whenever it comes. You never know when you’ll meet the perfect groom!”

Days turned into months, and months into years, but Bella’s dream of finding her soulmate remained unfulfilled. She attended doll gatherings, picnics, and even tried online dating for dolls, but no one seemed to capture her heart. Yet, she never lost hope, and her optimistic spirit continued to shine.

One sunny day, as Bella strolled through Dollington Park, she noticed a new doll in town—handsome, with a twinkle in his eye. His name was Ken, and he had recently moved to Dollington from the neighboring Toyland.

Bella’s heart skipped a beat as she saw Ken, and she couldn’t help but blush beneath her veil. Determined to make a lasting impression, she approached him with a cheerful “Hello!”

Ken was captivated by Bella’s radiant smile and the elegance of her perpetual wedding dress. They spent hours chatting about their dreams, aspirations, and, of course, love. It turned out that Ken had always dreamed of finding someone as unique and passionate as Bella.

As the days passed, Bella and Ken’s connection deepened. They shared laughter, tears, and countless moments that made their love blossom. Finally, the day they both had been waiting for arrived. Bella and Ken decided to have a whimsical wedding in the heart of Dollington, surrounded by their friends and family.

Bella the Wannabe Bride finally became Bella the Beautiful Bride, and her dream had come true. From that day forward, she happily wore her wedding dress, not as a symbol of waiting, but as a testament to the love that had found its way into her heart.

And so, in the enchanting world of Dollington, Bella and Ken celebrated a love so magical that it would be retold for generations, reminding everyone that sometimes, dreams do come true—even for a doll in a perpetual wedding dress.

This repaint was a lot of fun. The hair was the best part of upcycling this doll. I named her Caroline.

I repainted her face using acrylic paint. Outfit made with 100% cotton. I decorated using tatting technique and made the pink flowers. Hair made using 100 % cotton yarn.

Doll Face Repaint

Repainting her face was challenging and fun. It was not easy, but I got there in the end. When the repaint was complete, I used clear nailpolish as varnish.

The dress was a simple triangle shape which I wrapped around the barbie and stitched the side together. I then attached blue yarn at the bottom and crocheted around the edge of the dress.

Decide the length of the hair and begin rolling up the hair in the desired length. You will also need glue, a sewing machine, and two types of ribbon: wide width and narrow width (see pic above). In this tutorial, I had to glue the wider ribbon to the doll head.

This was to give it a surface that is easier to glue the hair onto. You might not need to do this. You will need the narrow width ribbon to stitch the hair onto. This is to create the hairpieces that you will glue to the doll hair in a circular fashion.

Lay the ribbon across the middle of the yarn as pic above shows. Stitch with long stitches across the ribbon on the sewing machine. Lay all the hair across to face one side. Stitch across the ribbon with cross stitches on the sewing machine. The result will look like the picture below.

Glue the hair in a circular motion around the head (see pics below).

Once all the hair is glued on, you can give her a haircut. The haircut part is the best part. Now you can be creative and pretend you are Frédéric Fekkai. :)

Doll Upcycle begins with Great Hair

Doll upcyle is one of my favourite hobbies. The doll hair is my favourite part.

These barbie trousers is part of a FULL and FREE doll makeover project. I have already made the top and this pattern is also free and available on this website. Click on link below to get the barbie top.

Crochet Materials

Crochet hook size 1.9 mm

100 % cotton in light blue.

Sewing needle (to assemble and weave in ends).

Scissors

Crochet Barbie Trousers pattern step by step with pictures.

This pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.

Make 2 identical motifs.

Each mortif is one leg of the trousers. Row 12-15 shapes the back and front of the upper part of the trousers.

Row 1. 40 chainless single crochet. Turn.

Row 2-5. 1 sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 6. 1 sc in next 30 sc. Turn.

Row 7 – 9. 1 sc in 30 sc. Turn.

Row 10. 1 sc in 15 sc. Turn.

Row 11. 1 sc in 15 sc. Do not turn.

You will now begin to shape what will be the back of the trousers.

Row 12. 2 hdc in last sc, 1 hdc in each sc up to the top of row 6. Turn.

Row 13. (Skip 1 hdc, 1 hdc in next hdc) x 2, 1 hdc in every hdc to end, do not crochet in the sc. Turn.

Row 14. 1 hdc in hdc. Fasten off.

You will now begin to shape the front of the trousers.

Row 15. Reattach yarn in first sc opposite side (row 1), 1 sc innext 8 sc, turn.

Row 16 – 17. 1 sc in 8 sc. Turn. Fasten off after row 17.

Row 12 to 17 shapes the upper part of the trousers. When you assemble the trousers, stitch row 17 together at the front. Begin stitching row 14 together at the back, but only halfway down the row 14. Tuck the remaining half of row 14 in and stitch to the front trouses.

Wrap the length of trousers around the legs and stitch together. Fold the end of trousers up around the ankles to give the appearence of a heamed seam.

How to crochet barbie outfits

Crocheting Barbie outfits are easy, but you will ahve to use a very small hook and quite fine yarn. I use 100 % cotton and 1.9 mm yarn.

In this post, I gave Elsa a remake. I also made her a wig. In a previous barbie makeover, I stitched yarn directly to the barbie head (see image below), but this time, I made a wig using doll hair.

To make this crochet top, you will need to make 2 identical motifs.

Materials

Use a small crochet hook size 1.9 mm.

Use 100 % cotton yarn.

A sewing needle to weave in the ends and attach the 2 motifs.

Crochet Barbie Top step by step instructions

1st Motif.

Row 1. Begin by crochet 7 chainless sc. Turn.

Row 2 – 9. 1 sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 10. 2 sc in next 3 sc, 1 sc in each of the remaining sc. Turn.

Row 11. 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Row 12. Rep row 10. Turn.

Row 13. Rep row 11. Turn.

Row 14. 2 sc tog, 1 sc in remaining sc to end. Turn.

2nd Motif.

Row 1-9 same as 1st Motif.

Row 10. 1 sc in each sc to last 3 sc, 2 sc in each of the last 3 sc. Turn.

Row 11. 1 sc in sc to end. Turn.

Row 12. Repeat row 10. Turn.

Row 13. Rep row 11. Turn.

Row 14. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc, 2 sc tog.

Stitch the row 1 together at the back of the doll.

Stich row 14 together, but leave 7 sc open as image shows. Use the leftover string as a cord around the neck.

Weave in the ends using a sewing needle.

How to make Life Size patterns using crochet Doll patterns

If you multiply the stitches with 7 or 8, and use a larger hook such as 5.5 mm, then it is possible to recreate a doll pattern to become a real size pattern. :) You might also ahve to change yarn size to one that fits better around a larger size hook.

This pattern uses the Tulip stitch.

Scrap yarn used:

Moda Dea Vixen 100 % Nylon

Yellow yarn 100 % Acrylic

Blue yarn in 100 % Acrylic

White yarn in 100 % Acrylic

Crochet hook size 3.00 mm

Scissors

Sewing needle

Crochet Barbie Dress pattern

Front and Back motifs is the same. Make one front and one back.

With white: Ch 16, turn, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to end. Turn.

Row 1. 1 sc each sc from hook, 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn. Change color to green.

Row 2. Ch 4, 1 dc in same sc as ch 4, *sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next sc, ch 2, 1 dc in same sc*, rep between ** to end. Turn. Change color to yellow.

Row 3. Ch 2, 5 dc-cluster in 2 ch sp, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, 5 dc-cluster + ch 2 in next two 2-ch sp, sk next 2 ch-sp, 5 dc cluster in last 2-ch sp. Turn. Change to white.

Row 4. Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as ch 1, *1 sc in 2-ch sp, 1 sc in 5 dc-cluster*, rep between ** to end. Turn.

Row 5. 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn. Change color to green.

Row 6. Ch 4, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, *sk 2 sts, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st*, rep between ** to end. Turn. Change color to blue.

Row 7. *Ch 2, 5-dc cluster in 2 ch sp*, rep between ** to end. Turn. Change to white.

Row 8. Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as ch 1, *1 sc in 2-ch sp, 1 sc in 5 dc-cluster*, rep between ** to end. Turn.

Row 9. 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn. Change color to green.

Row 10. Ch 4, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, *sk 2 sts, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st*, rep between ** to end. Fasten off.

Stitch sides of dress around barbie. Attach straps using single strings. Attach each side.

As you can see, I have also made new hair for the Barbie. :)
