Crochet instructions

This pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.

Wrap yarn around the frame. If you run out of yarn, tie some more yarn to the end of the last yarn, and continue wrapping.

Tie the beginning yarn piece with end yarn piece when you have wrapped all the way around the frame. Attach hook with a slip stitch.

Crochet around heart shape as follows: (Ch 3, 1 sc) x 24, end with

Round 1: (Ch 3, 1 sc) x 24, end with sl st in 1st ch 3.

Round 2: In ch-3 sps crochet: (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 tr, ch 3), continue around all ch-3 sps, sl st in foundation wrap.  Fasten off. Tie in ends.

Crochet Materials:

Crochet hook size 3.0

Acrylic yarn: red, white, black, green, and pink.

Sewing needle.

Stuffing.

Crochet instructions:

This pattern uses US stitch abbreviation.

Row 1. Ch 7, turn, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next 4 chs, turn. (5-dc group made)

Row 2. Ch 7, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next 4 chs, sk 4 dc on previous 5-dc group, ch 1, 1 sl st in next st, sl st to bottom of st.

Row 3. Ch 7, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next 4 chs, sk 4 dc on previous 5-dc group, ch 1, 1 sl st in next st, crochet 2 dc down same st.

You now have 3 x 5-dc groups.

Row 4. Sc in next st, 4 sc up last st of 5-dc group, sc in next st, 2 sc up next sc, sc in next st, 4 sc up next st, sc in next st, sl st i next st.

Row 5 – 6: Sc in each sc around.

Row 7. (2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc) rep around.

Row 8. (2 sc tog, sc in next sc) rep around.

Fill in the stuffing.

Crochet head of penguin.

Row 9. (2 sc in each sc) rep around.

Row 10. Sc in each sc around.

Row 11. (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) rep around.

Row 12-18: Sc in sc around.

Row 19: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc tog) rep around.

Row 20: Sc in sc around.

Row 21. Rep row 19 + 20.

Row 22. (2 sc tog, sc in next sc) rep around.

Row 23. Sc in sc. Fill in stuffing.

Row 24. 2 sc tog until hole is closed.

Continue crochet feet where the 2 x 5 dc-groups are at the bottom of penguin.

Sl st in 1st st of 5-dc group either side.

Sc in next 4 dc, 4 sc up next dc, 1 sc in next 4 dc, sl st in next st. Fasten off. Repeat the other side.

Repeat other side.

Make flippers (wings)

Attach double yarn 2 rows above feet with sl st. Sc in next 2 sts, turn, sc in sc, turn, sc in sc.

Repeat the other side.

Attach Hair as picture shows. Make 4 each side (8 all up). Attach 4 strings of green yarn each side with pink chunky yarn.

Attach green yarn as shown, and close with sl st.

Crochet Eyes.

With white curly yarn crochet 4 chs.

Turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, turn.

Sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, turn.

Sc in sc. Fasten off. Stitch to face.

With black yarn and a sewing needle, stitch around eye, and stitch pupils.

Crochet Scarf.

With multi-colored yarn: ch 7, 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end.

1 dc in each dc to end.

Repeat 1 dc in each dc 24 rows. Fold in half. Twist and fold twice around penguin’s neck. Tie the scarf in front. Attach blue yarn same way as hair at end of tie.

Penguin Beak.

Between eyes attach red yarn with sl st. 4 sc between eyes. Turn. Ch 1, 1 sc in turning sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc. Turn.

Ch 1, sc in 4 sc. Repeat 7 rows. Sk 2 rows on penguins face. Sl st in next row. Sl st across beak. Sl st beak in next sc in penguin’s head.

Fasten off.

Crochet yarn 4 ply 100 % Acrylic: Blue.

Sewing needle.

Safety Pin.

Crochet Instructions

Wind yarn 20 times around your index finger. Slip loop off the finger and tie the ring off with a sl st.

Round 1. 21 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc. Crochet the 1st ‘arm’ as follows: Ch 10, fasten a safety pin to ch 10 to secure work, turn, 20 sc back over 10 ch, sl st in next sc round 1. Turn. (ch 4, sk 4 sc on arm, sc in next sc) x 4. Turn. In each 4- ch sp on arm crochet 6 sc, sk next sc on round 1, sl st in next sc. Turn. Crochet 2nd ‘arm’ as follows: Ch 10, sl st in 3rd sc in 2nd loop from the centre. Turn. Crochet 20 sc in 10-ch sp, sl st in next sc of round 1. Complete arm as before. Crochet 5 more ‘arms’. Fasten off. Re-attach yarn in ‘arm 1’ where safety pin is, and attach with sl st in 3rd sc in 2nd loop from centre ‘arm’ 5, sl st in next st to secure it.

Fasten off and Weave in ends.

With crochet hook size 4 and red yarn:

Continue crochet Snail house. Reattach multicolored yarn together with red yarn in ch 3 of 2nd circle of snail house (the part that where you didn’t  crochet snail neck). Use crochet hook size 4.0.

Row 47. Ch 3, 2 dc in next 14 dc, sl st in ch 3, attach with sl st on 4th row of snail neck around sc.

Row 48. Ch 3, dc in dc, sl st in ch 3.

Row 49. Ch 3, *dc in next dc, 4-dc bobble st in next dc*, repeat between ** to end, sl st in ch 3.

Row 50. Ch 3, dc in each st to end, sl st in ch 3.

Row 51. Ch 3, *2 dc tog, dc in next st*, repeat around, sl st in ch 3.

Row 52. Repeat row 49. Sl st around sc on neck of snail.

Row 53. 2 sts tog until hole is closed. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Crochet eyes sockets.

With Yellow and crochet hook size 3.

These crochet eyes are more like buttons where you will glue on crochet craft eyes.

Make a slip knot. Ch 1, sc in ring until you can not fit any more scs in round. Continue crochet over the round of scs with another round of scs. Repeat a third time of scs. Now the eye ‘button’ is folding slightly inwards. Use the inwards side of buttons outwards so that the doll eyes can sit within the buttons. Stitch eye ‘buttons’ on Snail.

Irish Crochet with chunky yarn.

Irish crochet is traditionally done with fine yarn and small hooks. I, however, enjoy crochet irish crochet with chunky yarn and larger hooks as it gives it a contemporary look that can be used to make unique styles of clothing.
