Crochet Mittens with Picot edges

Materials:

Crochet hook size 6.5

Crochet yarn

Make 4:

Ch 23,

Row 1: (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in 13th ch from hook, *ch 5, sk 5 chs, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in next ch*, repeat between ** ending with ch 5, sk 5 chs, 1 dc in last ch. Turn.

Row 2. Ch 7, sk 1st dc, *sk 5 chs, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in next 3 ch sp, ch 5*, repeat between **, ending with ch 5, sk 5 ch, 1 dc in next ch. Turn.

Repeat row 2 x 8.

Sl st to middle of 3 ch sp to create thumb-hole.

Row 3. Chain 3, 1 tr in every sts to end. Turn.

Row 4. Ch 3, 1 tr in every tr ( do not crochet across thumb-hole). Turn.

Repeat row 4. Fasten off.

Attach two identical mitten pieces where thumb-hole begins at top.  Do not crochet across thumb-hole, instead continue across tr.

Row 5. Ch 3, 1 tr in next 10 tr, 2 tr tog x 4, 1 tr in every tr to end. Sl st in ch 3.

Row 6. Ch 3, 1 tr in next 10 tr, (2 tr tog) x 2, 1 tr in every tr to end, sl st in ch 3.

Row 7. Ch 3, 1 tr in next 10 tr, (2 tr tog) x 1, 1 tr in every tr on end, sl st in ch 3.

Sl st sides of mittens together. Turn inside out.

Picot across every opening like this:

*Ch 3, 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in ch sp*, continue between ** across every opening.

Make the other mitten same way.

The Mittens are made too big on purpose. Decorate with safety pins and tighten them with safety pins at the same time. If you don’t want to use safety pins you can use buttons.
